Notes on the publication

Colophon

An independent journal for engineering, science, technology and culture. Designed for reading, reference and return.

Impact through authority,
not spectacle.

Type & material

Titles are set in Value Serif. Source Serif 4 carries the reading text; IBM Plex Sans gives navigation, captions and technical information their own quieter voice. Code uses JetBrains Mono.

A paper-toned ground, near-black ink, fine rules and a restrained burgundy accent form the visual system. The dark theme offers a separate night edition.

Editorial principles

The journal brings technical and cultural work into a shared archive. Categories identify the field of inquiry; dates, sources and references provide context. An essay remains an essay, and a technical study makes its methods visible.

Technology & revisions

Articles and project studies are stored as Markdown and MDX. Next.js renders the publication, and a local search index allows readers to search in their browser. Entries display a revision date when one has been recorded.

Authorship & tools

Authorship and supporting sources are identified within individual entries. This colophon does not assert how any particular entry was produced; consult its notes and references for provenance.
